Miniature Golf is a game of putting; similar to golf.
The game is played on a putting green which are usually made of artificial
turf and concrete. While some putting greens can be flat restangular with
obstacles incorporated into the design, others are more elaborate with
exciting adventurous characters amd themes. Waterfall, rocks, miniature
mountains on uneven terrain is part of the prominent concept for adventure
golf parks around the world.
Miniature Golf has been a favorite game around the world for many decades.
The predominant impression of most people today is that Miniature Golf
is a game only for leisure and fun. In reality, Miniature Golf has evolved,
and is now played as sport on "Golf in Miniature" facilities.
In the early 1900's Miniature Golf was actually the short hand game of
real golf. The name used in the early years was "Garden Golf"
and it was played with a putter on real grass.
In the 1920 and 1930 rails started to appear and the surface was changed
to hardpressed conttonseed hulls. It was also in the 1930's that obstacles
were introduced to the game.
The first national tournament was help in the United States in autumn
of 1930, with over 200 participants representing thirty states.
In the 1940's the now familiar story book characters were introduced as
course obstacles and hazards.
Since the 1980's the newer Adventure-style courses became very popular.
These couses adopted on a Disney - look theme. At the same time these
adventure style courses became anchor tenants for family entertainment
centres, incorporating other family-oriented activities.
Today, Miniature Golf experiences a tremendous growth rate in the number
of players as well as the number of courses worldwide. Presently Federation
(WMF). Representing over 40,000 registered players and millions of leisure
time users.
